ROMANS Study Guide

c. Paul reviews the amazing gifts God had given the Jewish People:

1) Adoption as sons (God’s earthly family) Ex.4:22; Deut.32:6

2) Theirs was the divine glory (manifest glory of God in the

wilderness and in the Temple) Num.9:15-16; 1Kings 8:10-11

3) Receivers of the covenants (i.e. to Abraham, Moses, David,

etc.) God had bound himself to the Jewish People by these

contracts that spelled out duties and benefits for both parties.

4) Given the Law (not just the Ten Commandments but the

whole religious - legal system)

5) The Tabernacle and Temple worship

6) The Promise (to Abraham and his descendants that they will

bless all nations …Gen.12:3… the promise of the Land of

Canaan…Gen.12:7)

7) The Patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the twelve Son’s)

8) And the Messiah who came out of their race.

Note: Here is one of the clearest statements by Paul calling

Jesus Christ …” God overall.” Vs.5

Rom 9:6 Not however that the Word of God has failed, for not all those of Israel are Israel. Rom 9:7 nor because they are the seed of Abraham are they all children. But "In Isaac shall your Seed be called." Rom 9:8 That is, not the children of the flesh are children of God; but the children of the promise are counted for a seed. Rom 9:9 For this is the word of promise: "At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son." Rom 9:10 And not only this, but when Rebekah also had conceived by one, by our father Isaac Rom 9:11 (for the children had not yet been born, neither had done any good or evil; but that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who called,)

Rom 9:12 it was said to her, "The elder shall serve the younger." Rom 9:13 As it is written, "Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.”
