ROMANS Study Guide

e. What is the bases of personal spiritual freedom or restriction?

vs.5-6 This is a core issue for Paul. Is your personal belief based on

what you have worked out in your walk with the Lord?

1) Are we fully convinced God allows or does not allow the

freedom or restriction we are considering. (vs.22)

2) Are we doing it or not doing it to glorify God in our life? vs.7,

Col.3:23

f. We must not use our personal convictions to cause our brother or

sister in Christ to stumble (fall). Vs.13

1) Stumbling: Our action or judgments causes another believer to

sin, to be spiritually injured (i.e. either by following your example

of liberty or legalism in doing or not doing something when they are not

fully convinced it is right before God)

2) Paul declares his freedom in being able to eat or not eat anything… but

his freedom must not be used to dest roy another’s walk with God.

Rom 14:15 But if your brother is grieved with your food, you no longer walk according to love. Do not with your food destroy him for whom Christ died. Rom 14:16 Then do not let your good be spoken evil of, Rom 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Rom 14:18 For he who serves Christ in these things is well-pleasing to God, and approved by men. Rom 14:19 So then let us pursue the things of peace, and the things for building up one another

g. The kingdom of God is not about my ability to eat or not eat some food or

what day I choose to worship him on. The kingdom of God has to do with

three things:

1. His righteousness - Living a righteous live in Christ Jesus (in his strength)

2. Enjoying the gift of his peace (Phil.4:7) and declaring that peace to others by accepting

God’s gift of salvation through Christ Jesus.

3.

His ability to live a victorious joyful life in Christ - no matter my

circumstances.
