When the kidnappers at last pull the gag from his mouth and tell him where they are taking him, Stephen seems delighted and cordial. He assures his kidnappers that he welcomes the opportunity to speak to the assembled Sanhedrin. Stephen knows, of course, that his time has come! Although apprehensive, a deep peace and confidence fills his mind. Spiritually, he soars and is filled with overwhelming joy! Stephen prays silently in the language of the Holy Spirit, rejoicing that he soon would be in the very presence of the Lord Jesus. * * * * * The gathering, of course, lacks full attendance, as well as other things; nevertheless, the plan of Caiaphas’ team is now in motion and on course. Stephen is dragged in and thrown down before the thinned-down Sanhedrin Council meeting, false observers and “paid witnesses.” Weakened from his beating, Stephen collapses when shoved. Slowly he rises to face the High Priest. The radical, requisitioned “witnesses” are angry and vocal: “ This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against the holy Temple and our Jewish law!” Some shout trumped up reinforcement: “We have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs of Moses!” Not realizing that his simple opening question will unleash a floodgate response, the High Priest asks Stephen, “Are these accusations true?” Of course, a simple, humble
