Wincing and gagging at the disgusting smell, Saul steps into the basket and the two helpers throw leaves in to cover and hide his presence. Lifting the bag and man over the window ledge, the three men lower their cargo to the ground below.
The night is dark, quiet and peaceful.
Saul and the others pray fervently but excitedly that no one will notice the bag being lowered. Even if someone is looking, however, this hopefully will not appear as a suspicious happening, it will seem like any disposal of garbage. The humble oil-presser’s idea is indeed a good solution, God’s solution! With a dull thud, the bag hits the ground and Saul drags himself out into the stillness of the night, gulping the fresh air and shaking loose the filthy slime. Following instructions, he unhitches the rope, gives two tugs to his friends above, and sets out toting the bag with him. On his way to find the caravan heading south to Petra and Egypt, he disposes of the bag and bathes himself in one of the nearby streams. Fortunately, his friends supplied Saul with a clean change of clothing in an oil-resistant cover.
