I Appeal To Caesar!
Chapter 6 A BLINDING LIGHT Damascus Connection
Note: The event discussed in this chapter is undoubtedly, as expressed by many historians, the most important event in the development of worldwide Christianity.
AD 35, Saul & Team Make Their Trip to Damascus
aul’s caravan makes an early-morning start for Damascus, wishing to avoid any unnecessary publicity, as well as, get on their way as fast as possible. The six men travel through a portion of Samaria and along the western side of the Jordan River headed North, passing a wide variety of travelers and caravans. Greetings are exchanged, but there are strange looks from fellow travelers who observe the Rabbi riding his horse up front in a royal manner, followed by five tough-looking soldiers handling the roped donkeys and a tall, heavily laden camel— and what about that ominous sound of rattling chains in some of the donkey loads? Today’s traveler would find the lead man’s behavior strange. Any Jew of that day, however, would know that a Pharisee could not associate with unclean people, food, or things. Being a Pharisee himself, Saul could have little or nothing to do with his own soldiers. He rode or walked alone, entertained by his own thoughts because there was nothing else for him to do. * * * * *
