Holy Boldness

(Jesus) perfect through suffering. (Hebrews 2:10)

Jesus came to assist God the Father “in bringing many sons to glory…”. Therefore, the great prize Satan was after was Jesus’ identity as a son. It was Jesus’ awareness of his unique vocation as Son that empowered Him at His core. One cannot account for the impact of Jesus’ life without realizing the supreme significance of knowing that He was uniquely sent by God and the continuous cognizance of God’s favor and power in His life. To live life as a Son of God is to be in continual dependency upon the Father. Without the awareness of God’s favor through the spirit of sonship, which was mightily confirmed in Him at His baptism, much of Jesus’ journey would have been clouded in insecu rity and therefore would have been impossible to navigate. But He was not an orphan but a Son of God, full of confidence and peace. There is actually no way to navigate your personal destiny and purpose without a profound awareness of your being in the will of God. This authority that was so evident in Jesus from this point for ward is the reward of the fear of the Lord. Because Jesus committed to serving God’s purposes as His first priority, God entrusted all things into His hands. At the core of the temptations lies this subtle yet fundamental issue: “What does it mean to be a Son of God?” Does sonship mean privi lege and power and being able to live above conflict, pain, or suffering or did it mean something else? Sonship is a privilege. It is power. It raises a person above conflict but it does not mean the avoidance of pain and suffering. To be a true son one must enter into a full appreciation of the heart of the Father. God loves the world. Therefore, being a son means loving the world as well. Being a son involves being sent to deal with the real issues of life. It means that one is prepared to deal with problems without fear, even if the solution involves personal hardship, pain or suffering. Sonship is not the right to avoid problems but the authority to confront them and bring solutions. The Real Meaning of Sonship
