obvious from the few facts that we have from their story is that they fully embraced and engaged their assignment. Jesus’s growth in the fear of the Lord happened in the context of a mother and father who knew how to walk with God. They were familiar with the scriptures and faithfully followed the traditions of the elders. But their lives revealed something more than merely keeping tradition and going to the synagogue. They were not foolish or superficial but were deep wells that God had fashioned. They had been seasoned by adversity and tested at the core levels of the fear of man and had managed to obey God through a storm of scandal and public opinion. Such testing creates a culture that accommodates a deep understanding of the ways of God. The home of Joseph and Mary was Jesus’ original school of Theology.
