Holy Boldness
and be healed of your affliction.” (v. 22)
It’s an amazing point of the story that Jesus stopped to affirm the woman while He was on His way to deal with another critical issue. Most people would have been carried along by the crisis at hand remaining oblivious to what had happened. Here, however, revealed yet another manifestation of Jesus’ authority displaying His presence of mind in every waking moment. Amid one person’s exhilaration came news of another person’s despair. As Jesus was attending to the woman, Jairus, the sick girl’s father, received word that his daughter had already died, seemingly signaling the end of the need for Jesus’ assistance. This miracle is particularly interesting because Jesus had to navigate numerous conflicts of interests, traditions, and unbelief to come to the final victory. • He was interrupted en route to help the man with His daugh ter by the woman who touched His robe and got healed. • Consequently, the little girl died before Jesus could get there. • The father’s face must have flooded with grief but Jesus imme diately countered and encouraged the father saying , “Do not be afraid any longer; only believe!” (Mark 5:36) • Additionally, he only took His closest disciples, Peter, James, and John, with him to go to deal with the situation. • Upon arriving at the house of Jairus, there was a large com motion of people loudly weeping and wailing. • Jesus challenged the commotion saying, the girl was not dead but only sleeping. • People started to laugh revealing the artificial nature of the mourning but Jesus put them out of the house. • He took only His disciples and the little girl’s mom and dad into the room where she lay. • Finally, turning His attention to the little girl He took her hand and spoke two words, “Talitha kum.” (Mark 5: 41) Raising of the little Girl- Talitha kum!
