Holy Boldness

Jesus always operated in humble submission to His father. The fear of the Lord that Jesus walked in recognized the Father’s authority over Him. When Christ was raised from the dead, it was a divine en dorsement and giving over of all authority to Him. The fear of the Lord demonstrated today in the church must recognize Jesus’ right to reign for no one ever submitted more profoundly to the will of the Father than He did. He is truly worthy of our trust and submission. The more deeply the church comes to see that faith is simply an act of submission to the Father’s will and trust in Christ, the greater and more easily accessed her faith will be. Quickly word got out about Jesus’ healing power and crowds be gan to gather around Him. Upon seeing them, once again Jesus avoided the attention by gathering his disciples and sailing to the other side of the sea. However, on this occasion, the sea became stormy while Jesus slept in the hull of the boat. As the storm increased, the disciples became alarmed for their lives and woke Jesus. But Jesus was surprised by their terror and gave them the title, “men of little faith.” Jesus then rebuked the wind and it became perfectly calm. This is another example of the authority and simplicity of Jesus. It is also a picture of what mankind was meant to be from the beginning. The original divine mandate to Adam was “…fill the earth and subdue it.” (Genesis 1:27). Jesus subdued the storm by a verbal command. He did not make a big deal out of what He had just accomplished. He simply took care of the issue and continued. The disciples on the other hand were dumbstruck and asked, “What kind of man is this that even the wind and the waves obey Him?” The answer to that question, “What kind of man is this…? , is that He was a new kind of man, the redefinition of man, the restoration of the original intention of man for Jesus came to restore all that had been lost. The restoration of mankind was graphically portrayed in the very next scene. Upon landing on shore, Jesus was immediately challenged by a human storm of two demonized men.
