Heart of a Psalmist - Worshipping Christ Through The Psalms
Conclusion: (10-12)
“ Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth! (10) God commands three vital actions towards his son from the rulers of the nations:
• Serve the Lord- “ Serve the Lord with reverent fear…”(11) • Sing to the Lord- “ …and rejoice with trembling.”(11) • Submit to him- “ Submit to God’s royal son…[kiss the son] (12)
We will either kiss him in worship as the woman with the alabaster box: “ You didn’t give me a kiss of greeting, but she has kissed my feet again and again from the time I first came in.”(Luke 7:45) Or it will be the deceitful kiss of betrayal like Judas: “ Judas, how can you betray me, the Son of Man, with a kiss?” (Lk. 22:48)
Resisting the Messiah-King-Son and his kingdom is futile: …“ or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of your pursuits-for his anger can flare up in an instant.” (12)
Loving the Messiah-King-Son will result in joy and blessing! “ But what joy for all who find protec- tion in him!” (12)

PSALM 3: A SHIELD AROUND ME The Rest of Faith
David wrote this Morning Hymn as he experienced the crisis and the triumph of faith during the re- bellion of his son Absalom. He awakens not only to the battle with his son’s army but also to the faith- fulness and protection of the Lord. It is closely associated with Psalm 4, the Evening Hymn where he rests confidently during the crisis, and Psalm 63, the Midnight Hymn where he arises at midnight to give thanks to God in the middle of the crisis. All three of these psalms were composed on the occasion of Absaloms rebellion. It can be divided along the lines of the three ‘Selahs’ or ‘Interludes’
I. SO MANY ENEMIES - The Crisis of Faith- (1,2) Interlude II. A SHIELD AROUND ME - The Confession of Faith- (3,4) Interlude III. SLEPT IN SAFETY - The Certainty of Faith- (5-8) Interlude
INTRODUCTION :
“ A psalm of David, regarding the time David fled from his son Absalom. ”
Absalom’s rebellion forced his father to escape for his life from Jerusalem. “ A messenger soon ar- rived in Jerusalem to tell King David, ‘All Israel has joined Absalom in a conspiracy against you!’ ‘Then we must flee at once, or it will be too late! ‘ David urged his men. ‘Hurry! If we get out of the city before he arrives, both we and the city…will be spared from disaster.’”(2 Sam. 15:13,14)
I SO MANY ENEMIES - The Crisis of Faith- (1,2)
In the crisis of faith there are two major obstacles to overcome: what we see with our eyes and natural understanding and what other people say about the situation.
