Heart of a Psalmist - Worshipping Christ Through The Psalms

“ Listen to me, O royal daughter; take to heart what I say. Forget your people and your homeland far away. For your royal husband delights in your beauty; honor him (worship him), for he is your lord. The princes of Tyre will shower you with gifts. People of great wealth will entreat your favor.” (10-12) • This is a royal daughter and bride. Peter tells the church: “ But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation…” (1 Peter 2:9) We must accept our new identity to follow Jesus. • This bride is most likely a Gentile as she must leave her people and culture. Rebekah had to make an immediate decision to leave her family in order to marry Isaac: “ So they (her family) called Re- bekah. ‘Are you willing to go with this man?’ they asked her. And she replied, ‘Yes, I will go.’”(Gen. 24:58) We must be willing to leave our old life behind to follow the Lord Jesus. • She worships her heavenly husband as an offering of love: “ Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”(Rev. 21:9) God desires the respect and adoration of his bride as he show- ers her with unfailing love. • She will be given many ‘gifts’ from the Spirit: “ There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.” (1 Cor. 12:4) The honored bride will command the respect of the most influential people on earth. “ The bride, a princess, waits within her chamber, dressed in a gown woven with gold. In her beau- tiful robes, she is led to the king, accompanied by her bridesmaids. What a joyful, enthusiastic proces- sion as they enter the king’s palace! (13-15) The Lord is completely overcome by the beauty of his bride the church. The language in this song and the Song of Songs reaches the very heights of poetic writing and makes it very clear that God is in love! “ There may be sixty wives, all queens, and eighty concubines and unnumbered virgins available to me. But I would still choose my dove, my perfect one, the only beloved daughter of her mother! The young women are delighted when they see her; even queens and concubines sing her praises.” (Song of Songs 6:8,9) As we come to him in sincere worship, he is like the husband receiving the jubilant wed- ding party.

The Offspring of the Marriage

“ Your sons will become kings like their father. You will make them rulers over many lands.”(16)

We are the sons and daughters of the king and the church is described as a mother to the be- lievers. “ But Sarah,…represents the heavenly Jerusalem. And she is our mother.”(Gal. 4:26) We bear the spiritual genetics of our Father God and he has destined the leaders of the church to influence and change many nations for his glory.

THE WRITER COMMENTS - 17

“ I will bring honor to your name in every generation. Therefore, the nations will praise you forever and ever.” (17)

The son of Korah who was inspired to pen these lyrics now signs off the divinely guided poem know- ing that it will be read in every generation, in every nation, on every continent for the glory of God. He expects correctly that those who read it will be encouraged and supernaturally motivated to join the ever-extending surge of praise that will never cease!
