God's Prophetic People

2. Josiah (2 Kings 23) Josiah was the king who is known for taking down many of the idols/high places in his day. He aided in helping God’s people return to true worship — the worship of Jehovah. Josiah was the one who brought back all the Levitical priests who served in the high places. The following are some of the practices of Josiah’s day: a) Idols in the temple (verses 4-6) b) Idolatrous priests (verses 5,8) c) Practices of sodomy and prostitution in the temple (verse10) d) Astrology (verse 5) e) Ritual sacrifices of children (verse10) Josiah set out to destroy all of pagan practices. As a result, he brought a reformation to worship throughout the nation of Israel. 3. David (1 Chronicles 15 and 1 Samuel 6) When it comes to David, he is the one who seems to stand head and shoulders above all others in restoring worship back to Israel in a relational way with Jehovah. David worshiped a living God, the only true living God. David was the one who replaced:

a) Ritual with relationship b) Form with fervency

c) Sobriety with singing, celebrating, and dancing d) Sacrifice of animals with sacrifices of praise and worship and thanksgiving

King David was the one who brought Jehovah God back to the center stage of all worship, life, and religion. David set up a tabernacle for the presence of Jehovah to dwell. David organized a ’round -the-clock choir and orchestra. David brought about a mighty renewal and revival of worship throughout his nation. In fact, for a period of forty years during David’s reign, worship took new heights in the religion of Jehovah.
