to Jesus, ‘But Lord, what about this man?’ Jesus said to him, ‘If I will that he remains till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.’” You see, it shouldn’t matter to us what happens to others, to what place they attain in life or ministry, what things they accomplish. All that really matters is that we follow the Lord. The more time we spend looking around at others, the quicker our holy passion begins to fade away. We must focus on the One who gives us holy passions. For it is only the One who gives us our holy passions that will sustain our holy passions. Jesus gave the disciples a lesson in regard to their competitive spirit in Matthew 18:1-4: “At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, ‘Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.’” After this incident, the Lord then deals with their mother, who came to Him with a competitive spirit, asking a competitive question in Matthew 20:20-28: “Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. And He said to her, ‘What do you wish?’ She said to Him, ‘Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.’ But Jesus answered and said, ‘You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?’ They said to Him, ‘We are able.’ So He said to them, ‘You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.’ And when the ten heard it, they were greatly
