God's Prophetic People
Some other Enlightenment thinkers were people such as Isaac Newton, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, John Locke, and Voltaire. Generally, they held a deistic view about God, acknowledging His existence as creator, but leaving the conduct of life to man and his reason. It was during this period of time in which modern science was born. As a result of this perspective of a distant God and this approach to life, many humans became very impressed with themselves and with their ability to work things out rationally. Scientific reasoning became the key to unlock people from their bondages. Oh, how we have erred in the past! But thanks be to God that in these last days God is pouring out his Spirit and bringing us back to the right perspective which believes in the supernatural. worldview is commonly held by Westerners. Non-Westerners, on the other hand, are frequently concerned about the activities of supernatural beings. Though many Westerners retain a vague belief in God, most of them deny that other supernatural beings exist. Taken to the extreme, this leads us to a state of “having a form of godliness and denying the power thereof” (2 Timothy 3:5). As we step back and have a look at our society as a whole, one could conclude that we are specializing in producing scientists, engineers, and technicians, who in turn develop new theories and plans in order to control the substances and the processes of nature. The following are a few examples of today: • Birth control pill • Abortion pill • Invitro fertilization • Diet pills Let’s explore some of the other worldviews so that we are fully aware of other perspectives that surround us. 1.
