15. WHY DOES GOD FORBID IDOLATRY IN ANY FORM OR FASHION? The God of the Bible is a jealous God and His glory and His praise He will not share with another. Exodus 20:5; Isaiah 42:8. 16. HOW DOES GOD LOOK UPON IDOLATRY? God looks upon idolatry as degrading, the practice of fools and an abomination in His sight. Acts 17:29; Romans 1:22, 23; Deuteronomy 7:25. 17. WHAT EFFECT DOES IDOLATRY HAVE ON A PERSON'S DESCENDANTS? God visits His punishment for idolatry on the coming generations of them that hate Him. Exodus 20:5. Note Exodus 32:34, 35. 18. HOW THEN CAN WE PLEASE GOD AND SECURE HIS BLESSINGS? By serving the only TRUE God and Him only. Exodus 20:6. 19. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IS THE FULFILLMENT OF THE SECOND COMMANDMENT. No man could make an image of God that would accurately represent God to man. Jesus' birth among men was God's gift of a satisfactory image. Everything that Jesus did was God being reflected in a living image before mankind. Hebrews 1:3; Romans 8:29; 1 Corinthians 11:7; 15:49; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Colossians 1:15. 20. WHAT IS THE THIRD COMMANDMENT? "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." 20:7. 21. WHAT IS GOD'S NAME? "God's Name" refers to every name or title by which God has made Himself known; such as, God, LORD, Jehovah, Almighty, Jesus Christ, Holy Ghost, etc. Specifically, it referred to the Scripture's most common name of God the Father, which was "LORD." Note again pages 57-61 of this catechism course for greater detail. Isaiah 42:8; Jeremiah 23:6; Matthew 1:21. 22. WHAT IS USING GOD'S NAME IN VAIN? Using God's Name in vain is: [l] Employing any Name of God uselessly, carelessly or in vulgarity; such as, "My God," "Good Lord!"
