LESSON 4: THE NOAHIC COVENANT (NOAH AND THE RAINBOW) 1. WHAT WAS THE HISTORICAL SETTING FOR THE NOAHIC COVENANT? "The wickedness of man was great in the earth and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." Genesis 6:5. "The earth was filled with violence." Genesis 6:11. "All flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth." Genesis 6:12. 2. HOW DID GOD FEEL ABOUT THIS SITUATION? God "regretted" that He had made man and it grieved Him. Genesis 6:6. God said, "I will destroy them with the earth." Genesis 6:13. 3. DOES THE WORLD SITUATION OF THAT TIME HAVE A MESSAGE FOR OUR DAY? Yes! Jesus clearly taught that the days immediately preceding His Second Coming would be like those violent days that preceded the flood. Matthew 24:37-39. 4. WHO WAS NOAH? Noah was a descendant of Adam through Seth who lived about 2500 B.C. He was destined to greatness by prophecy. Genesis 5:28, 29. 5. WHAT WAS THE NOAHIC COVENANT? Although God was angry at the violence of mankind, He made covenant with Noah. Noah was told to build a large ark (boat) which would be used by God for the preservation of Noah’s family and members of the animal kingdom. The world would be repopulated by these survivors. 6. WHAT KIND OF A MAN WAS NOAH? [1] Noah was "favored" of the Lord. Genesis 6:8. [2] He was a just man, and [3] Perfect in his generations. 6:9.
