God And His Word - A Question And Answer Approach To Understanding The Bible
LESSON 3: THE ADAMIC COVENANT (ADAM DRIVEN FROM THE GARDEN) 1. DOES GOD EVER BREAK A COVENANT WITH MAN? God never breaks a covenant. When man has once violated a covenant with God, however, a new relationship exists and God acts accordingly. 1 Kings 8:23; Deuteronomy 7:9; Nehemiah 1:5; 9:32-38; Daniel 9:4. 2. WHEN DID THE EDENIC COVENANT END? The benefits of the Edenic Covenant were lost to man when Eve fell through deception and Adam sinned deliberately. Genesis 3:1-7; l Timothy 2:14. 3. WHAT WAS THE ADAMIC COVENANT? When man sinned, he stood before God as a law-breaker, and as such subject to the justice of God. The Adamic Covenant is God's statement .of both justice and mercy for Adam's disobedience. 4. WHAT WERE THE PHYSICAL CONSEQUENCES OF ADAM'S DISOBEDIENCE? Note that he lived just short of a Lord's Day - 930 years. [3] Man was driven from the Paradise of God. 3:22-24. 6. WAS THERE ANY SALVATION FOR ADAM AND EVE? Although the wages of Adam's sin was death (Romans 6:23), God did extend mercy. In Genesis 3: 21, we find record of first vicarious sacrifice.
