God And His Word - A Question And Answer Approach To Understanding The Bible

6. DID GOD FOREKNOW THAT MAN WOULD SIN? Yes, and He foreknew the fearful consequences, but He also foreknew the ultimate outcome. 7. WHAT WAS THE GREAT PURPOSE THAT GOD HAD IN MIND? God's greatest desire is to bless man with a nobility of character like His own. This desired perfection in man, however, must be a result of man's will as well as God's creation. The Garden Eden was basically a simple test of character and will, set amid every conceivable blessing. Man learned in no uncertain terms that character failure would bring death. Genesis 2:17; Ezekiel 18:4, 20. Now, God's program is to develop within fallen man a desire and will to OVERCOME in spite of the testing’s of sin and Satan. Revelation 12:11; 21:7. 8. HOW DID THE SERPENT BEGUILE THE WOMAN? Note: 2 Corinthians 11:3, 14; Revelation 12:9; 20:2. [1] Questioning the Word. 3:1. [2] Adding to the Word. 3:2, 3. [3] Denying the Word. 3:4. 9. WHAT ARE THE THREE LUSTS THAT THE SERPENT EVOKED IN EVE? 1 John 2:16; Genesis 3:6. [1] LUST of the flesh: "…saw that the tree was good for food…" [2] LUST of the eyes: "…it was pleasant to the eyes..." [3] The PRIDE of life: "…to be desired to make one wise…" NOTE: Jesus conquered these lusts in the Wilderness. Luke 4:1-13. 10. HOW IS A SIN COMMITTED? The following formula is given in James 1:12-15: PERSONAL LUST + ENTICEMENT + SIN = DEATH

(sinful desire) (tempted with evil) (act of lust) Note also Romans 7:5 and Galatians 5:24.

11. THE RESULTS OF ADAM'S DISOBEDIENCE and the broken covenant will be analyzed in the next lesson, since it is the covenant that was based on the broken Edenic Covenant.
