God And His Word - A Question And Answer Approach To Understanding The Bible
[5] John 13:19 - "that ... ye may believe that I AM." [6] John 18:5 - "Jesus saith unto them, I AM he .... " [7] Matthew 14:27 - "Be of good c heer; it is I (I AM); be not afraid." [8] Mark 14:61, 62 - "Art thou ...? And Jesus said, I AM." 15. NOTICE HOW JESUS DESCRIBES HIMSELF AS THE GREAT “I AM.” It was this claim of Deity that sent Jesus to the cross. He fearlessly employed I AM (ego eimi, the Greek emphatic usage) in describing Himself. HE DECLARED THAT “I AM”: [1] The Bread of Life - John 6:35. [2] The Light of the World - John 8:12. [3] Door of the Sheep - John 10:7. [4] The Good Shepherd - John 10: 11. [5] The Resurrection and the Life - John 11:25. [6] The Way, Truth and the Life - John 14:6. [7] The True Vine - John 15:1. [8] Alpha and Omega, Beginning and End, Revelation 1:8. 16. GOD HATH MADE JESUS BOTH LORD AND CHRIST - Acts 2:36. Jesus refers over 100 times in John's Gospel to God as His Father. In the New Testament Christians also refer to God as Father, and NEVER invoke Him through His personal Name of LORD. The reason is obvious! The Father gave His Name of LORD to JESUS. In addition, the Holy Spirit anointed Him, making Him CHRIST as well. We, therefore, use the Name of the LORD Jesus Christ - the Name which reveals the fullness of the Godhead Bodily - the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. A TRI-UNITY GOD revealed through a TRI-UNITY NAME! 17. HERE ARE ADDITIONAL REFERENCES SHOWING JESUS WAS MADE LORD: John 5:43; Luke 2:11; Acts 2:36; Romans 10:9; 2 Corinthians 4:5; Ephesians 4:5; I Corinthians 8:6; 12:3; Philippians 2:11; Ephesians 3:11; Philippians 3:8; 1 Corinthians 15:31; Acts 7:59, 60; 9:5; 9:17; 22:8-12; Mark 16: 19. Note Paul's opening salutations: 1 Corinthians 1:3; 2 Corinthians 1:2, 3; Galatians 1:3; etc. He mentions God as FATHER, then adds significantly "The Lord Jesus Christ."
