LESSON 3: CHASTISED FOR OUR PEACE 1. WHY WAS JESUS CHRIST CHASTISED (PUNISHED) FOR OUR PEACE? He took our punishment that we might have peace with God. Colossians 1:20. 2. WHAT IS PEACE? Peace, according to the dictionary, is a state of tranquility or quiet – a freedom from all that disturbs or excites. It speaks of order, security, and harmony. 3. WHAT IS PEACE WITH GOD? Peace with God is to be reconciled to God; that is, to be brought back into harmony and friendship with God again. "Be ye reconciled to God." 2 Corinthians 5:20. When you are on friendly terms with God, you have peace WITH Him, and His peace IN you. 4. HOW CAN I HAVE PEACE WITH GOD? Peace with God only can be experienced when we come to the Father through His son, Jesus Christ, who is the only mediator between God and man, and receive divine pardon for our sins. Romans 5:l; 8:6; John 14:27; Isaiah 9:6; Romans 6:23. 5. HOW WILL THIS 'PEACE AFFECT MY LIFE? This peace from God will… A. Give us an inner serenity that can come to man through no other means. Philippians 4:7. B. Free us from the haunting sense of sin. Hebrews 10:22. C. Cleanse us from all feeling of contamination and unfitness. Romans 8:1. D. Enable us to stand before God in the hour of our death with this same feeling of peace and security. Psalms 23:4. E. Keep our mind sound in the hour of grief, distress or trouble. 2 Timothy 1:7. 6. HOW CAN I KEEP THIS PEACE? The Lord will keep us in perfect peace if our minds are stayed on Him and we trust in Him to help us in every circumstance of life. Isaiah 26:3. 7. CAN I HAVE PEACE OF MIND IN THE MIDST EVERY TROUBLE?
