God And His Word - A Question And Answer Approach To Understanding The Bible

LESSON 4: THE SAVIOUR IN THE STATE OF EXALTATION 1. WHAT WAS CHRIST'S STATE OF EXALTATION?

Out of Jesus' humiliation and physical death was birthed the ministry that could never die. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus entered the state of resurrection life which exalted Him above all the power of sin, death, hell and the devil. Philippians 2:9-11; 2 Corinthians 5:19. 2. WHAT DID CHRIST ACCOMPLISH IN HIS STATE OF EXALTATION Christ accomplished this: He descended into hell. After being buried three days, He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. 3. WHAT DO THE SCRIPTURES TEACH OF CHRIST'S DESCENT INTO HELL? The Bible indicates that while the body of Jesus lay in the tomb, Christ descended by the Spirit into hell (the abode of the dead), not to suffer, but to proclaim victory over His enemies. 1 Peter 3:18, 19. 4. WHAT DO THE SCRIPTURES TEACH OF CHRIST'S RESURRECTION? After Christ's body had lain in the tomb for three days, Christ miraculously rose from the dead and came forth from the tomb. He showed Himself alive to His disciples. Luke 24:39; Acts 10:40, 41; 1 Corinthians 15:4-8; Acts 1:3; Matthew 27:62-66; 28; Mark 16; Luke 24; John 20, 21. 5. WHY IS THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST OF SUCH IMPORTANCE AND COMFORT TO US? Christ's resurrection definitely proves:

A. That Christ is the Son of God. Romans 1:4. B. That His doctrine is the truth. John 2:19.

C. That God the Father has accepted the sacrifice of His Son for the reconciliation of the world. 1 Corinthians 15:17; Romans 4:25. D. That all believers shall rise unto eternal life. John 14:19; 11:25, 26.
