Forty Days Full - An Invitation To Real Life
tweeting, posting is the passing of information and only tells part of our story. This is why we eat at a table where we look into each other’s eyes and break bread together. Mephibosheth was a Son of Jonathan, David's closest friend, who got lost in the shuffle during the change of the monarchy. He was five-years old when his father was killed in battle. When his nurse heard the news, she intended to flee to protect him, but in her hurry, she dropped him. He was disabled the rest of his life. Years later, David desired to show kindness to the house of Saul. Mephibosheth was the only living relative. He had grown up discarded and incapable of taking care of himself. He received a summons from the king. “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” (2 Samuel 9:7-8) Mephibosheth had been so beaten down by life's disappointments that his opinion of himself was equal to a dead dog. We have also been summoned to eat at the Kings table. All of us have been beaten down by the weight of sin. But, the King of Kings sees value in us and has chosen to adopt us as His own Children. If you are in Christ, you’ve been invited into a community of love. You are part of a very big family. The regular gathering together of God’s kids should feel like what Ann and I experienced at the table of that Italian family. It’s a place that welcomes you home. It’s a place overflowing with love and laughter. Welcome to the table.
