Forty Days Full - An Invitation To Real Life
eventuality that caused the preacher in Ecclesiastes to conclude all human accomplishment is vanity.
This is why Jesus had to go to the cross. He who knew no sin actually became sin. He embraced the sins of all humanity from Adam to present and beyond...as His own. God had promised that sin would result in death. Jesus had to die in our place, with our sins upon Himself, separated from the Father, to satisfy God's promise. This is how devoted He is to His own word. This was necessary for a 'new creation' to become possible. Through Jesus' death something new was formed. The Greek word for ‘new’ in this passage means - recently made, fresh, recent, unused, unworn, of a new kind and unprecedented. And the word for ‘creation’ means - original formation. In Christ a new species was born. It is a miracle of redemption. Our original design was to know God and have relationship with Him forever. We still live in a broken world with broken people, but we are made new and restored to a connection with God that was impossible before Christ. So if God was so bound to His word regarding death from sin, how much more will He bind himself to his promise of restoration purchased by His Son? In a very familiar biblical story, Jesus was having a conversation with a Pharisee who was a Synagogue leader named Nicodemus. Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.“ John 3:3 Jesus was describing this new species of human. In Christ we experience a spiritual awakening. Our spirit is united with the Holy Spirit. This is what we were made for from the beginning, to know God and be in relationship with Him. Unfortunately, our soul and body are still deeply affected by the result of sin.
