Section IV: Welcome to the Promised Land
O ur God is a very good Father. When He makes a promise, you can stake your life on it. He is not the kind of Father who would give a promise to tease or put off a persistent child. His promise is an invitation to go higher. God is not angry at your immaturity. A good father celebrates every stage of development. What kind of Father would expect a two-year- old daughter to be a marine biologist? She's still messing her diapers. She's just learning to talk. He’s not frustrated with you. God knows where you’re at. He knows what you’ve been through and how it may still be hindering you. He is patiently waiting for you to reach out to Him. When we embrace His promise, we’re touching His world. His promises usher us into a new realm. Each promise has its own abundance of possibilities. It elevates us above the stuff of this world into heavenly places. Hope is an anchor for the soul, and we need this heavenly connection. We are in a battle. Will we live in the abundance that Christ died for or will we trudge through life like so many before us. His promises are our weapons of war. It’s a fight for our identity. It’s a fight for our future and the souls of those we influence. Every promise possessed is a contradiction to life on this broken planet, but they are a sure and solid reality. All of us have days that we feel the wind has gone out of our sails. It’s like the accuser has chosen you for a punching bag and all your stuffing is falling out.
