Forty Days Full - An Invitation To Real Life

don’t serve to be seen. They say no to themselves out of pure desire to elevate others. It’s beautiful! It smells like Jesus.

It’s not the beginning of the race that counts, it’s the end. I used to run track back in high school. The races I ran were long distance. Everybody wanted to run the 100 meters, because it was the shortest and had the most glory. The whole race happens right in front of the grandstands. I was never fast enough for that kind of race. I was made for endurance. The mile and the two miles were what I ran. I remember inexperienced runners would always start off fast and get a big lead. It feels good to be way out in front, but it was only a matter of time. They would hit the wall, lose their wind and sometimes their lunch. Running distance requires you to always have some reserve energy in your tank. This enables you to press through when your body tells you to stop. The time to empty the tank is just before the finish line. It’s a beautiful thing to pass people in front of the grandstands. Life is more like a distance race than it is a sprint. You have to pace yourself and make sure you don’t find yourself empty. It has always been a deep passion of mine to hear the Lord say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” (2 Tim 4:6-8 NIV)
