Forty Days Full - An Invitation To Real Life
Day Twenty-Eight: Faithfulness
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Heb. 11:1 KJV)
F aith and faithfulness are essentially the same word. Faithful can mean full of faith, but it can also mean reliable, constant and loyal. Faithfulness describes a person who faithfully lives out one’s trust in God over the long haul. This ongoing evidence of a faith-life will produce a character change. Faith should produce faithfulness. It always concerns me when I hear of believers who are unfaithful employees. I’ve known Christian businessmen who don’t like to hire Christians because they’ve been burned in the past by believers who took advantage them. They’d show up late to work. They’re level of performance while at work was sub-par. They’d leave early before their shift was over. All this is done in the name of grace. “Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble Is like a bad tooth and a foot out of joint.” (Proverbs 25:19 NKJV).” When the Spirit controls your life, faith increases. If we allow the Spirit to guide us it will show up in many ways. We’ll arrive at work on time. We’ll be there for a friend in time of need. We’ll be true to our word and keep our promises. “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds. “Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.” (James 2:17-18 NIV)”
