Forty Days Full - An Invitation To Real Life
and try to use reason to convince a person they should be calm or trust. This is not how it works. His peace can outweigh the pressure of circumstances. When I know who Jesus is and that I am securely 'in Him,' then His peace is a commodity available to me when I need it. The invitation of Jesus is to find a place in the midst of a storm that transcends earthly wisdom. Peace is what everyone wants! Barbara Walters asked Richard Dreyfuss: “If you could have one wish, what would you wish for?” Without hesitating, he said, “Every time I have a birthday, every time I blow out candles, every time I see a shooting star, I wish for the same thing – I wish for inner security.” Martin Luther King Jr. said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.” Peace is not the absence of conflict. And it’s not sweeping troubles under the carpet, so you don’t have to deal with them. So how was Jesus able to stay asleep in the midst of a terrible storm? Everyone else was panicking as their life flashed before their eyes, but not Jesus. He was free of the worry and fear that plagues most of humanity. He was on a God-ordained mission. His connection to the Father was so secure that a simple storm could not unhinge Him. No relational conflict could pull Him into the winds of self-doubt. He knew He had been sent and drowning simply was not an option. His gospel is called the ‘The good news of peace’ (Act.10:36). Through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit we too carry the peace the world longs for. It flows from the peace we have made with God by accepting His Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14 (NIV)
