spiritual love, He takes care of our practical needs as well. He is deeply concerned that we are provided with ade- quate food, drink, clothing, and that we maintain our good health. Jesus Himself remarkably assures us in Matthew 6:25-35 that our Father will provide us with these temporal things. Five times, Jesus urges us not to be anxious about mundane things that the heathen so eagerly seek. Instead, we are to seek continuously the rulership and holiness of God in our lives. 2 We are to seek his kingdom constantly, and it is to take precedence of all our desires. When we diligently seek Him, we release Him to bless us as He wishes. King Uzziah’s story in 2 Chronicles 26 graphically illus- trates this point. As long as he sought God and obeyed His will, Uzziah was blessed far beyond his expectations. But Uzziah grew proud; he began to trust his own strength and relied less on the Lord. So the Lord pun- ished him; he was reduced from a most prosperous ruler of a great kingdom, to a wretched leper who was exclud- ed from his own house. Verse 5 sums it up succinctly: “as long as he sought the LORD, God prospered him.” Although God sought his welfare, the man rejected Him. Secret #5. God Causes Good. Romans 8:28 has brought a great deal of assurance to God’s people:
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
However, we should not assume that things will just fall into place; that the historical flow of things will automati- cally work out in our lives. We should not presume to take personal control of our lives, to rely only on our ability to 74
