AWAKEN THE DAWN!
the Man of prayer. Consider first the time when He brought scathing accusations against the cities of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum for not believing in Him. Suddenly He breaks forth in joyful praise that God has revealed His will instead to humble people:
At that time Jesus answered and said, “I praise Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that Thou didst hide these things from the wise and intelligent and didst reveal them to babes….” 16
The joy and assurance that radiated from Jesus as He savored the ways of God could only result from a life of prayer. Remember how seventy of His joyful followers returned from a great evangelistic crusade, gloating that even the demons were subject to them because of His name? Again, Jesus knew great joy and was assured of God’s purpose. Notice the similar wording in Luke 10:21; also note that He was inspired of the Holy Spirit:
At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I praise Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that Thou didst hide these things from the wise and intelligent and didst reveal them to babes. Yes, Father, for thus it was well-pleasing in Thy sight.”
A third example takes place at the tomb of Lazarus. Deliberately taking His time, Jesus arrived too late to pray for His sick friend. Lazarus was dead, buried, and at the time of Jesus’ arrival, was physically decomposing. Boldly, Jesus told them to remove the great stone which covered the entrance to the sepulcher.
